#AmendmentOne has its supporters, they just don't make a lot of sense.

  1. Nice deconstruction that provides an interesting read. I think more needs to be said about the secular society aspect. I just quit talking with fundies about it because I live in a rural NC county and am just purely outnumbered.

  2. Thanks. It never fails to astonish me when people argue for mashing up church and state. And yet, it keeps happening. For far too many Christians, it seems freedom of religion means freedom to impose their religion on everyone. Show them an Islamist state like Iran and they wet their pants about the threat of Sharia Law, and then they turn around and try to put I.D. in classrooms, the Ten Commandments in courthouses, and make "Biblical marriage" the only legally recognized relationship. Secularism solves the problems of an oppressive theocracy, not an alternate oppressive theocracy.

    1. I agree totally. Someone capable should pen a secular society primer that average folks can use in their conversations. Too often the conversation immediately gets heated in a religious aspect (belief v. non-belief)and the points about individual freedom are lost.
