Baseball cards, Star Wars cards, Elvis Presley cards, NBA cards of UConn players ... I've collected several different types of trading cards over the years. Most of them are gone, lost while moving or to some other ignominious fate. I miss them. But, I've still got some of the old cards, as well as new digital cards available through the Topps apps. And those new digital trading cards are what's prompted this new endeavor. The apps are transparent money grabs -- a never-ending stream of notifications urging the purchase of credits to buy packs with higher odds of getting special cards. As a cheapskate poor, my collections are doomed to be forever second-class, or worse. So, I'll make my own damned cards. Cards that honor deserving-but-ignored-as-per-my-fandom-interest subjects Big Card neglects. Unauthorized, unlicensed, and untradable -- this cryptonaut is going rogue to make the cards that need to be made.

First up will be some cards for the UConn Women's basketball program. Following on those, I have some ideas for a film noir series. Authors and musicians, of course, will come after that. Something historical and relatively obscure, maybe a U.S. Secretaries of State series, or something along those lines. We'll see how much juice I've got for this little side project after I've released a few cards to deafening silence, the first couple might be all you get ;)

With regard to images used on the cards, I will generally be using photos found online with a credit to the photographer, if I can find one. I believe my use of the images constitutes non-commercial Fair Use as I am modifying images for entertainment/artistic purposes, not for profit. That said, I appreciate and respect the talent of the photographers, and their right to make a living off the products of their labor; so, if I have used an image inappropriately, I will cheerfully honor the creator of the original work's request to take down the image, or to fix the credit if missing or incorrect.
