SPCA Mutts & Marshmallows Hot Chocolate Run 2018

NC's record cold snap from end of December through early January impacted my preparation for this race ... rather than toughening up and running through the cold, I scaled back and took some extra rest days. On the one hand, was a little disappointed with my time as I'd hoped to be close to my last result. Want to see times starting with 25, 24, or even 23 at some point this year, so putting up a time starting with a 26 felt like a step backwards. On the other hand, this was my first time with a top ten overall finish and my first age group win, so I'm pretty happy about that.

Let's call the slower time a function of the course (wet, muddy) and conditions (cold, windy) and try to focus on the positive, shall we?

Going to Subject Myself to Fire and Fury

Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House

Sure, I'll read this mess, eventually but I'm not looking forward to it. Don't get me wrong, I don't doubt Wolff's account of what people close to Trump are saying. But, I've heard Wolff give interviews where he basically talks about Bannon like some kind of strategic genius who is steps ahead and blah, blah, blah.

Bannon is a racist scumbag. The thing about racist scumbags is they are universally, without exception, not smart. They may be cunning frauds, but never smart. That Wolff is so impressed by Bannon's intellectualism is a huge red flag. I've also seen excerpts of the text that read like they were written by cliche-spouting hack.

Given our current (alleged) billionaire celebrity presidential experience, I'm struck by how quickly Dems and centrists are pledging their fealty to another celebrity billionaire under the auspices of #Oprah2020.  Look, I get that she makes a good speech, and if we're picking celebrity billionaires to hitch our wagons to, I'd take her over Trump every day. The point is though, celebrity billionaires are not going to save us or the Republic. We need to fix things so there are no billionaires, not hand them the keys to the car. Let's not put ourselves in the position of having to choose between celebrity billionaires by insisting on an actual leftist, or at least left-leaning, to represent the interests of working people and the poor. No billionaire will fit that bill. Not Oprah, not Zuckerberg, not any other billionaire you've got on deck.
