RALEIGH, N.C. — State and federal transportation officials said Tuesday they've reached an agreement to release $461 million in stimulus funds to North Carolina to improve passenger train service between Raleigh and Charlotte.Because it would suck to have a fast, direct passenger train between Raleigh and Charlotte. I might be tempted to hop a train and go see the Panthers, or might've gone to some NCAA tournament games last week, or just take the family to explore Charlotte. Sure, we've done the drive a couple times but I'd rather take the train. Why, oh why, do Republicans hate trains? (Or the thought of spending on infrastructure in general?)
Some lawmakers, however, want the state to reject the funding unless the General Assembly approves high-speed rail projects.
