(Newser) – Former Vice President Dick Cheney needs a new heart and may soon join a transplant list, he revealed in his first interview since major surgery. He's suffering from 'end-stage' heart disease and will make a decision soon whether or not to go ahead with a transplant. In the meantime, he's as irrascible as ever ...I expect an Onion headline, if there isn't one already, roughly along these lines: "Wikileaks hints next big release will include details of a mountain of heartless corpses at Guantanamo."

Cheney about to join Assange on Interpol's Wanted List?
Nigeria to Charge Dick Cheney in Pipeline Bribery Case - Bloomberg:
![]() |
Itchy trigger finger. |
Nigeria will file charges against former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and officials from five foreign companies including Halliburton Co. over a $180 million bribery scandal, a prosecutor at the anti-graft agency said.My hunch: the outcome of this will be a Nigerian prosecutor winding up with a muzzle-load of birdshot in the face.
Indictments will be lodged in a Nigerian court “in the next three days,” Godwin Obla, prosecuting counsel at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, said in an interview today at his office in Abuja, the capital. An arrest warrant for Cheney “will be issued and transmitted through Interpol,” the world’s biggest international police organization, he said.

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. Ex-President Edition.
ACLU Clamoring for Criminal Probe of Bush After Waterboarding Admission:
It'll never happen though. There's no appetite in this country for justice. Obama will be impeached for being a Kenyan Muslim socialist liberal fascist illegal alien before Bush and Cheney are held accountable for making a fraudulent casus belli and every death resulting from that fraud.
"In our system, no one is above the law or beyond its reach, not even a former president."Actually, certain people are, especially in that administration. Also, it's not just the ACLU "clamoring," it's every single person who believes in the rule of law demanding accountability. He should have been impeached during his first (unelected) term. And then the criminal cases should have started.

The Kung Fu Kid
The Karate Kid (2010) - Flickchart
Well, I finally broke down and watched it. I didn't really want to, but it was eating at me, there being this Jackie Chan movie out there I hadn't seen yet, when I'd sat through The Medallion. (If you can suffer through The Medallion, I'm not sure Dick Cheney could extract your phone number if he had you for a week in Gitmo, you're that determined.) So, when the redbox free code came in today, I took a flyer.
I actually liked it. It's the kind of role I've been saying for some time that Jackie needs to be playing: the age appropriate sifu. Jackie's got a bow-legged gait and hang-dog, weathered look here that suit the character's melodramatic back-story. He doesn't overdo the mugging, it's a one of his better dramatic performances. Although, I am little bummed Mr. Han didn't fight the leader of the NĂ¼ Cobra Kais. I'll just have to watch Police Story again soon to get fix of Jackie mixing it up.

Three Simple Words: Rule of Law
Obama Endorses Indefinite Detention Without Trial for Some Now at Guantanamo - washingtonpost.com:
No. No. No. It was wrong when W. and Cheney were doing it, and it's still wrong. If the detainees did something wrong, prove it. If they're conspiring to do something wrong, prove it. If you can't prove it, that doesn't mean you get to lock them up and throw away the key. In fact, it means the opposite. I thought Obama got it and this was all understood. This is discouraging.
President Obama acknowledged publicly for the first time yesterday that some detainees at Guantanamo Bay may have to be held without trial indefinitely, siding with conservative national security advocates on one of the most contentious issues raised by the closing of the military prison in Cuba.

So, It Would Be Cheney's Voice?
Coming to a Remainder Bin Near You!
"I'm going to put people in my place, so when the history of this administration is written at least there's an authoritarian voice saying exactly what happened." —former president George W. Bush, in Calgary yesterday, discussing the book he plans to write. [AP via Google]

Don't Cross Dick Cheney If You Know What's Good For You
I hear he's strutting around telling people the last guy that gave him lip got shot in the face.
Quail hunting with multimillionaires, just another day in the life for DC. Imagine, if Gore had done this during Clinton's presidency, how the right wing media would be on the attack, fabricating all kinds of conspiracies ("I hear the guy was sleeping with Hillary and she ordered Gore to do the hit after he threatened to tell all to Bill O'Reilly") and calling for Clinton to be impeached. Oh, and they'd be saying he was 'out of touch' (like Kerry was during the campaign) for engaging in such dandified exploits as quail hunting while working people were home pining for a cut in the capital gains tax, domestic spying programs, and prayer in school.

We already knew he hears voices, so I guess this isn't news, I just liked the picture they chose to go with the article.

Cheney
The 9/11 attacks happened on Bush/Cheney's watch and yet Cheney's got the gall to say if you vote for the other guys this fall, you're inviting another devastating attack? If it weren't so sick, I might've laughed.

Ethel Is Good Reading
Several interesting posts recently at Ethel the Blog, not that that's unusual, but if you haven't been reading over there, now's a good time to start. Recent posts concern Kim Philby and moles, Bush Sr. pardons of dubious distinction, and Cheney's dealings with Iran, among other things.
