Let the Right One In (2008) #Flickchart

Let the Right One In (2008) - Flickchart

I was thinking earlier today it would be cool if there were a feature in Flickchart, or a browser extension, that put a Netflix Instant link next to the appropriate movies in the Movies I Haven't Seen list. Since I'm not aware of one, did the tedious process of checking myself, though I had to skip the highest Godfather Part II (not interested), plus a few others I saw so along ago I didn't want to rank, one I saw half of, a bunch that look weak, and Forrest Gump. The highest ranked, recent movie, that looked intriguing was Let the Right One In, so I dove in.

First of all, it was much sweeter and funnier than I thought it would be, not as suspenseful (in that gimmicky horror movie style), nor as grisly as I feared -- I'm squeamish, I admit it. Sure, there was some blood and a bit of carnage, but it was hardly a bloodbath. It's a very simple story with no real surprises, propelled (or drifting) on wintry atmospherics, punctuated by relatively tame vampirism until, without giving away the ending in case you're even later than me on this one, the just deserts are so sudden, brutal, and finished with such tenderness that you forgive the spareness leading up to them.

It was the review at Ghost in the Machine that put this on my radar a couple years ago and I'll thank Kevin for ranking it highly so I wouldn't miss it.
