Jackie Chan Is a Tough Dad -- Vulture:
|
Don't be fooled by the smile. |
If you were at an awards ceremony honoring your son, would you use the occasion to tell the media that you were willing all your money to charity so that your child would get nothing? That's what Jackie Chan did, when asked recently by reporters about his singer son Jaycee. 'If he is capable, he can make his own money,' he told Channel News Asia. 'If he is not, then he will just be wasting my money.'
Well, I wonder how into coddling we'd all be if our parents had sent us to China Drama Academy for ten years of hard-ass training. Check out
Painted Faces for a depiction of what Jackie, Sammo, and Yuen Biao endured -- although Jackie has said that Sammo let their schoolmaster off easy with an overly sympathetic portrayal.
