Drapetomania was a supposed mental illness described by American physician Samuel A. Cartwright in 1851 that caused black slaves to flee captivity.Just a reminder that the Confederacy was so anti-American, so contrary to morality and reason, that they thought a man's desire to be free was a mental illness.
When I see memorials to Confederate soldiers, like the one in Raleigh I drive past frequently, it makes me want to vomit -- never mind spit -- on the grave of a Confederate veteran.
