"There's no question I threw the first punch but he started it." - Thurman MunsonAs a Red Sox fan going to grade school in central Connecticut, I was on the more emotionally fraught side of the rivalry. The Red Sox were always the better team, and always had the best players (in my mind), but could never get over the Yankees and Steinbrenner, and Reggie Jackson and his candy bar, and all those World Series. Damn them. So, to stick it to me, kids who supported the Yankees nicknamed me "Munson." Now, I wouldn't trade Fisk for any catcher ever, but if I had to be nick-named for any Yank, I was (secretly, never admitted it) glad it was Munson.
